Abstract
During the period of from Jun. 1990 to Department of Surgery, Chungnam National University Hospital, the authors perfomed 217 fine needle aspiration(FNA) cytology of breast masses, among which 94 cases were confirmed by histologic esamination,
and
perfomed 25 FNA cytology under the sono guide, among which 17cases were confirmed by histologic examination.
@ES The results were as follows;
@EN 1) According to histologic examination, the sensitivity of FNA cytology was 80.0%, specificity 94.4%, false negativity 20.0%, false positivity 5.6%, diagnostic accuracy 88.3%, respectively. 100% of cytologic malignancy and 84.2% of suspicious
cases
were proven to be malignant histologically, and 86.4% of cytologically benign cases were proven to be benign.
2) The sensitivity of the clinical diagnosis was 85.0%, specificity 75.9%, false negativity 15.0%, false positivity 24.1%, diagnostic accuracy 79.8%, respectively.
3) The sensitivity of te FNA cytology under the sono guide was 85.7%, specificity 100%, false negativity 14.3%, false positivity 0.0%, diagnostic accuracy 94.1%, respectively. ]
Our results shown to be that FNA cytology, especially under the sono guide, was effective in follow up study f benign breast mass.
